Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum is the place where synthesis of lipids, oils, phospholipids and steroidshappens. Metabolizing of carbohydrates, regulation of calcium and other minerals and finally detoxification of drugs and poisons.
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is involved in synthesis of proteins. It has ribosomes attached to it ( when look through microscope the surface looks rough due to presence of ribosomes ).
